The Reader

It is so nice to have another reader in the family. This is what I came upon yesterday after unloading groceries. The kid is loving the reading. Lately she's been devouring the Franny K. Stein books. So cute! She's reading at a 4th grade level. And the Franny books are a 5th grade level, so she's doing well. So proud of her. I don't know what I'd have done (or her father would have done) if we'd produced a kid who didn't love books. But she does. And she loves nothing better than to go to the bookstore and sit and read while her dad and I look at books. Here she is cuddled up with her Franny book, in her sleeping bag, on my bedroom floor. Glass of water at the ready - hey, she was thirsty, at least it isn't red kool-aid or grape juice. Love the bookmark on the pillow. She's now in her room shouting a list at me to type for you. Here are a list of books she's read recently:

Bunnicula
Howliday Inn
The Celery Stalks at Midnight
Birthday Pony
the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books*
the Dog Named Princess books
Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Enormous Crocodile
How To Train Your Dragon (seriously hilarious by the way)
The Tale of Despereaux (in the process)
the Babymouse books
Charlotte's Web
The Dragon's Child
Ivy and Bean
The Boxcar Children
The Talented Clementine
Ramona's World
Little House in the Big Woods
Cam Jansen
Elliot's Park books
many, many of the Magic Treehouse books
Ramona and her Father
How to Eat Fried Worms
No Dogs Allowed
Runaway Racehorse

As you can see, she has read quite a few books in the last little while.

*Betty MacDonald (author of the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books and also The Egg and I) was a patient at Firlands, the same TB sanitarium that Grandpa King's dad was at in the 1930's. Not sure if they met. There is an interesting article here about Firlands.
